Beneficiaries
We are excited to share our first round of beneficiaries!
In April 2025 the Kukal Quartet from Prague, Chezia, attended a chamber music workshop in Aix en Provence where they received coaching, presented a concert, and played with other musicians from both Europe and the US. Eliška Halečková Kukal wrote,
“We would like to thank you once again for your invitation and scholarship, we all enjoyed the week very much and we appreciate the whole project, the concept of which was new and very rewarding for us. You can really feel that it was created out of a love for music that touches all people.”
The Fund also sponsored scholarships at two chamber music camps dear to John Dexter – Kent Music, a chamber music workshop run by the Manhattan String Quartet, with whom John played for almost 40 years, and Wyoda, another chamber music camp at which John had coached.
Charlotte Hotchkiss, the recipient of the Kent Music scholarship writes:
“I’d like to take a moment to thank [ The Fund] for the scholarship to the Kent Workshop in Seattle. I had heard something about the workshop previously, but didn’t know if it would be right for me. I was so glad to have the opportunity to find out for myself just how great it is. The combination of the deep dives into the Beethoven and the sight reading sessions ticked all the boxes and made for a fabulous week of fun and learning. It was great to meet and play with such a variety of new people.”
We are now accepting applications for the next round of scholarships and are looking forward to making this kind of chamber music experience possible for deserving applicants.
Kukal Quartet
The Kukal Quartet was founded in Autumn of 2020 by four exceptionally talented young musicians, who, notwithstanding their youth, have great respect for the legacy of the Czech quartet school. Eliška Halečková Kukal, Klára Lešková, Daniel Macho and Filip Rufer form a respected and sought-after ensemble of the youngest generation of Czech artists.
